Get Involved

It is nothing new to acknowledge that all of us are extremely busy with our daily routine, heavily scheduled careers, and never-ending chores. Yet, each of us has found that when we carve out time to be involved with ICS, it is unbelievably satisfying and rewarding. No, there are no annual bonuses nor health benefits. But it is the people involved that make it extra special. From the children and teens who participate to the adults who volunteer their time, energy and enthusiasm, each of them adds to the whole, making it a wonderful experience.

In this spirit of volunteerism, Rahul Tawney and Shailendra Khurana, have helped us update the look of our new website. It is with their technical knowledge and hours of hands-on computer inputs that we have benefitted as an organization. We are always appreciative and grateful for these and other similarly generous people.

ICS provides many opportunities to volunteer. Check them out...

Want to do more? Join ICS as a Committee Member and be a strong force in the steering of the organization. Every year, a new committee is elected, and it is a very simple process. Email us your interests, and depending on availability of position, you have a chance to be voted in. The annual General Body Meeting is held at the East Brunswick Library in January.

Talent Show: Annual show held each Spring season at the East Brunswick Library for children to showcase any talent, for e.g., instrument performance, dance, art, singing. No age limit.
India Day: Organized in conjunction with East Brunswick Library. An opportunity to interact with the local community residents, exhibit Indian treasures, generate interest in our traditions, and also give ICS kids an opportunity perform a dance.
NJ Cares: Give back to the community! Pre-teens and teens volunteer their time and services improving schools, playgrounds, or any other project appointed by NJ Cares. Volunteer credits given to students.
Annual End-of-the-year Event: ICS's annual grand finale event, with children's choreographed group dances, a delicious dinner, and a post-dinner professional entertainment show. The theme changes to honor events of the year, or highlights a prevailing sentiment, or a prominent tradition, for e.g., REFLECTIONS 2009, RHYTHMS 2010, GLIMPSES 2011.
Indian Dance Workshop: Professional teachers lead a workshop teaching traditional Bhangra, Garba, or even a snazzy Bollywood dance. This extremely popular event is free and open to the public.
Almeida Indian Senior Center Volunteerism: ICS members volunteer their time at the senior centers by performing a variety show: singing, dancing, or simply give their time.
Relay For Life Walkathon: American Cancer Research's all-night walkathon raises awareness and research funds to fight the cancer disease. ICS joins East Brunswick township's Relay, and in 2011, were the second highest contributors.
East Brunswick's Community Day: An opportunity to check out various non-profit organizations within the township. ICS members perform to an appreciative audience.
ICS Fundraising Events: Every year ICS takes up a worthy cause and either organizes an event or simply tries to raise awareness and funds. Events organized in the past: RD Burman's Retrospective Film, Ghazal Night, Breast Chronicles Play performance at NJ State Theater.
Atlantic City Trip: A one-day trip to gamble and just hang out with ICS adults. Time to party and have fun!
