A fundraiser for SANKALP
Sankalp was conceived on April 13th, 1991, by a woman who strongly believed that a girl child must have every advantage in society and that “she” plays a pivotal role in shaping families and the future of a nation.
Kanan Verma, a trained social worker, and the founder of Sankalp, believed that education was the key to such a vision: She believed that girls, if educated, could become autonomous, self-reliant and powerful decision makers. With the support of a dedicated core group of volunteers, Sankalp forged ahead with the mission of promoting equal opportunities in education for the girl child. Today, Sankalp, operates under the banner of the Indian Council for Child Welfare, TN, and stands tall, having made education a possibility for hundreds of girls by providing them financial assistance to stay in school, graduate, and work toward advanced professional degrees. It is with absolute pride, on this anniversary, ICCW-TN and Project Sankalp can claim to have contributed significantly to building a generation of educated, self-assured, and independent young women…and the faces of a new tomorrow.
